windows vista trouble with stellarium download vista

I installed a USB serial driver as well as the Ascom 6 driver package for the telescope. I am using the RS232 cable from the telescope to a USB converter that runs into the laptop.

I hope to have time to take a look at some of the other programs in the near future. At this point I can control the telescope with Astroplanner and Stellarium (since those were the two programs I had already started playing with). I was just wondering what programs seem to work best with the NexStar 8 SE. There seems to be a plethora of alternatives to try. What software seems to work best for everyone? Unfortunately, I did not receive the NexRemote software that normally comes with the scope. Of course that means a serial to USB converter cable too. Having done a little preliminary research, it looks like I need to run to my telescope shop and pick up an RS232 serial cable. I am interested in controlling my SE with my laptop. It has really lessened the learning curve and increased my enjoyment factor. Thank you guys for making all of this information available. I have also looked through the pinned links and found some great tips there as well. At least close enough that I was able to get some good observing in! After reading the posts and advice, I was reasonably close last night. When I was successful with an alignment, my GoTos were off. On my first attempt, my alignments were off. I am a new SE owner, but in less than a week have made some good strides on learning the scope (alignment, etc.) thanks directly to this forum and CN.
